The way they make music and the way they socialize. They do it all with true emotions, with their soul. Holding nothing back. Black Tears is a true Cuban product of love inspired by the Cuban way of living.
The Island Rum Company, established in 2012, is a spirits producer focused on developing and exporting Cuban rum with a contemporary perspective. Operating in partnership with Cuban state-run producers, the company combines traditional Cuban rum-making techniques - based on molasses fermentation, column distillation, and tropical ageing- with modern blending and product development. Its portfolio is designed to highlight the lighter, drier Cuban rum style while introducing innovative flavour profiles and cask influences for an international market.
Black Tears Dry Spiced Rum is a Cuban spiced rum built on a base of column-distilled molasses rum, formulated to depart from the high-sugar profile typical of the category. The spirit is infused with natural flavourings including Cuban coffee, cacao, and ají dulce (a mild, aromatic pepper), resulting in a dry, bittersweet profile. On the palate, it shows structured notes of roasted coffee, cocoa, light capsicum warmth, and restrained sweetness, with a relatively clean, short-to-medium finish. Its lower sugar content and balanced extraction make it particularly suitable for cocktail applications where control over sweetness is important.

Black Tears Roble Superior is an oak-forward Cuban rum that emphasises maturation influence over added flavouring. Produced from molasses and column distilled, the rum is aged in oak barrels under tropical conditions, accelerating interaction between spirit and wood. The result is a profile defined by lignin-derived vanillins, light caramelisation, and subtle tannin structure. Expect notes of vanilla, toasted oak, mild spice, and a rounded mouthfeel, with moderate body and a smooth, integrated finish. This expression sits closer to a traditional Cuban añejo style, with a focus on balance and barrel integration.
Ron La Progresiva 13 is a blended Cuban rum composed of aged base rums, produced using continuous column distillation and matured in oak under tropical conditions. Bottled at a slightly higher strength than standard Cuban offerings, it presents a drier, more structured profile. Aromatically, it shows light esters, citrus peel, and sugarcane-derived notes, while the palate develops into soft oak, gentle spice, and a hint of smokiness. The finish is clean and moderately persistent, reflecting a blending approach that prioritises balance, drinkability, and clarity of flavour over heavy sweetness or overt oak dominance.
