Citadelle Gin was launched in 1996 by Maison Ferrand, under the direction of master-distiller Alexandre Gabriel. Its creation was born out of a moment of inspiration: Maison Ferrand’s copper stills - originally used for cognac - lay idle for much of the year under regional production laws. Gabriel saw a chance to resurrect a centuries-old craft: inspired by a historic 18th-century distillery at the citadel of Dunkirk, he revived the idea of French artisanal gin, blending heritage with innovation.
Since then, Citadelle has built not just a gin, but a legacy. Crafted at the historic Château de Bonbonnet in the Cognac region, it’s distilled in small batches from a neutral wheat spirit and infused with 19 carefully selected botanicals, including juniper, citrus peels, spices, and herbs. This dedication to natural ingredients and artisanal distillation has secured Citadelle’s place as France’s first “gin de château,” and helped define what modern, craft gin could be.
Today, Citadelle stands as a benchmark of quality and heritage - a gin that bridges tradition and innovation, history and modern taste. Whether enjoyed in a classic gin & tonic, a refined martini, or simply neat to savour its botanical complexity, Citadelle offers a gin experience rooted in French craftsmanship and centuries of spiritmaking tradition.
